Somnath temple:

Somnath Temple was located in Prabhas Kshetra near to Veraval village of Saurashtra , on west coast of Gujarat, India is the five among twelve Jyothirlinga shrines of lord Shiva. The temple is considered to be very sanctified, due to various legends connected to it. Somnath means “lord of soma” which is another name of Lord Shiva.

Somnath temple “the Shrine Eternal” because it was destroyed many times by Islamic rulers. Rebuilt of this temple was taken place  in the year 1947 during the period of Vallabhai Patel and after that this work was visioned by Kanaiyala Maneklal Munshi another minister of Govt of India.

Architecture of Somnath Temple:

Chalukya style or Kailash Mahameru Prasad style of architecture is used and which also reflects the hardwork of Sompura Salats, one of Gujarat’s master’s manson. Coming to the description of this wonder, the temple Shikhara  is 15 metres in height, and it has an 8.2 metre tall flag pole at the top.


According to an inscription in Sanskrit  is found on Arrow-pillar called “Baan-Stambh “ which was erected on the sea protection wall at the Somnath temple given that this is the place which happens to be the first point on land in the north and south pole on that particular longitude, where it stands at a point on the Indian landmasses.
